Want to touch the sky?
Magaliesburg area offers a number of ways to get ‘up,up and away’. The most prestigious
and expensive of these is ballooning at sunrise. If you want to get up later, be
less at risk of weather-related cancellations and pay less, try gliding or microlighting.
Ballooning choices
- Bill Harrop’s “Original Balloon Safaris” in Hekpoort offers a thoroughly safe and
professional experience in the company of a true local character. Our guest house
visitors usually enjoy the sunrise flights and return here for breakfast. Make sure
you bring warm clothing for flights, because you will get up long before the sun
rises to be part of the pre-flight preparations.
- Life Ballooning and School of Ballooning offers flights and ballooning lessons from
Mokoya Lodge.
- Flying Pictures offers sunrise hot air balloon flights that include breakfast. Guests
who took a flight enjoyed the experience until the flight was aborted due to wind.
- Discover Ballooning also operates in the area but none of our guests have tried them.
Gliding
Magalies Gliding Club off the R24 near Orient on the Randfontein road offers introductory
glider flights and midweek teambuilding. This is a long-established club with a good
safety record and social facilities for members. Some of our German guests visited
members they knew from Internet contact, flew with them, socialised there and enjoyed
the experience thoroughly.
Microlighting choices
- Saddle Creek Ranch off the R560 offers microlight adventure flights. Some of our
British guests were thrilled at the experience of touching the clouds and seeing
the amazing views of the Magaliesberg. They stayed on to ride horses.
- Davies Aircraft Corp (DAC) offers micro lighting for individuals and corporates.
It is situated off the R24 opposite the
- Tarlton International Drag Strip. Our friends and family have enjoyed the early morning
flights, but DAV Will also book late afternoon flights. The views are of farmlands.
