Magaliesburg Camping

Campers looking for a new venue?

Camping can be a relatively cheap form of accommodation per capita for people who have their own equipment. Hire of camping equipment and meals are not generally included in camping rates, which are often per site plus a charge per vehicle, per person and per electricity point (where available).

Caravan and camping establishments featured on the Magalies Meander have to comply with the requirements of a quality assurance body. Gradings are usually linked to the quality of on-site facilities, ablutions, recreational amenities and services.

Close to Magaliesburg

The Magalies River is a key entertainment feature of many local resorts, venues such as Lovers Rock, Magalies Sleepy River  are popular with families seeking a pool and picnic or braai.

Into the Magaliesberg

The 2,400 million year old Magaliesberg range is incredibly beautiful. Nature lovers revel in the ecological variety found in its kloofs. Mountain Sanctuary Park is definitely for peace loving campers. It has its access off a dirt road from the R104 near Buffelspoort Dam and offers hiking, chalets, camping and caravanning, but no TVs or radios are allowed. Buy groceries before going there because the kiosk only sells drinks and energy snacks. Some of our French guests raved about the tranquility, the bird spotting and the mountain flora, but damaged their car chassis approaching the Sanctuary from Magaliesburg using Breedt’s Nek dirt road off the R24. Even maps mark that road ‘use at at own risk’.

When planning to camp, please bear in mind that winter camping in the bushveld comes complete with hot days and sub-zero termperature nights. Summer brings rain in the late afternoon and . Electric storms have been known to strike iron-bearing rocks in the Magaliesberg and injure campers. We have also experienced severe wind damage to our tents during a storm in the Pilanesberg. If you have any doubts about your safety, head indoors or into a vehicle parked in the open, not under trees that could collapse on your tent or car.

We suggest that you check the activities you want to experience and find suitable associated camping venues.
